About

My first serious contact with organs was in 1974, when I had to put together an organ that had been taken apart for the maintenance. It was before the Christmas and the person that was supposed to take care of the organ took sick. Due to continuous interest in organs I decided to acquire a higher diploma in music.

Firsthand work with organs begun in Kriisa Organ Workshop as an apprentice. During the training I participated in restoration of Harju-Madise, Pühavaimu and Sambori (Ukraine) organs. After that I worked in Konsistoorium Workhop. Among other things participated in refurbishing of the Põlva, Tapa and Kadrina church organs.

From 1990 I have been working in Finland at Urkurakentamo Martti Porthan LLC which is the strongest company in the country in that field. While working in Finland I have been a part of building new organs for Savonlinna, Janakkala, Nurmijärvi, Hollola, Kotka Dome Church and Stokholm Finnish church and Espoo chapel. During my working period in Finland I have also done a lot of minor maintenance jobs and light refurbishing.

I built a school organ for Torino church as my qualifying exam.

Due to numerous job offers I have been more concentrated in working in Estonia. In 1997 I founded Olev Kents` organbuilding Ltd. Our biggest projects have been refurbishing Keila, Viljandi organs and restoration of the Saarde and Valga organs. Equally important has been the building of the practice organ for Estonian Music Academy. Our latest projects have been restoration of the Tartu Peetri organ and installation of the Tartu Salem church, Rapla church and Institute of Theology organs.

I teach Building and Maintenance of Organs in University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy and in Institute of Theology. I have been a technical expert of the organ funds for Tallinn`s Dome Church and Tartu-Jaani Church. I also published a book for organ maintenance called (siia pane pealkiri eesti keels void ka panna)

I have participated in organ builders self improvement training in Belgium and traveled to Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Netherlands and Spain to learn more about different organs and also trained in the foreign workshops if possible.

I`m a member of the Estonian Organ Society and German Society of Organfriends.
